Fashion Victim

As the runway shows wrapped up, "More is More" is definitely the fall fashion trend. The looks covered every decade particularly, the seventies and the eighties, and they resembled a retrospective of fashion's best and worst. What saved the resurrection was the modernization of the looks. How the everyday person will interpret and wear these trends without looking as though they fell into a "trick or treat" bag is the challenge.

The Eighties dominated the fashion scene and with the conspicuous consumption of that period perhaps it is timely that these looks returned. The fast wealth brought by technology and Internet has brought that same economic optimism. The return of disco with its glitz and glam had Stella McCartney at Chloe doing the hustle with batwing-sleeved, beaded jersey dresses. Daryl K had her angel tops worn with leather hip huggers embellished with metallic glitter. So is this a very wearable picture for anyone with a little more pounds than that microscopic model Kate Moss!

The Seventies theme was represented by bohemian print dresses from Anna Sui, wonderfully mixed and matched. The signature zigzag patterned knits of Missoni returned looking so modern again for the season. Graphic prints were at Versace with a 50's revival of Pucci. Patchwork graced jackets, pants and skirts in almost every collection. So with any print revolution, you're bound to need the fashion police because there is bound to be an eye sore while walking down the street.

The feminine ladylike looks will be a pleasure for those who want fashion with a little less obviousness. Prada leads the pack with beautiful printed chiffon dresses with little fur stoles worn at the neck. Versace did their ladylike version "Dynasty" style. Donatella Versace did flowing chiffon dresses but hers were in bold colorful graphic prints. Others were long dramatically cut dresses embellished with paillettes and embroidery. Jean Paul Gaultier showed us his sultry lady that likened to Marlene Dietrich with her fedora, batwing jersey top and a trench coat.

It's a season of choices and for those that are fashion savvy it will be a shopper's dream to buy all those fun frou-frous and make a strong statement on style. The less astute fashionistas will be carefully shopping at Banana Republic to see how to interpret this eclecticism. And the sky is the limit for those know-it-all fashion victims!
